Latin and Greek Prefixes 4

Post ~ After
Pre ~ Before
Re ~ Back, Again
Retro ~ Backwards
Sub ~ Beneath
Super ~ Above
Sym ~ With, Together
Syn ~ With, Together
Trans ~ Across
Tele ~ Distant

We played Last Student Standing to practice and familiarize ourselves with these prefixes.

  • Make a list of words correctly using the prefixes,
  • Define each word ensuring that your definition uses at least one of thedefinition word(s),
  • DO NOT USE A DICTIONARY,
  • List as many as possible.
  • Afterward, pick your top five.
In the last few minutes of class we will all stand. Volunteers will read their five. If someone else has one of their five then that person or they and the reader must sit down. Then it proceeds to the next volunteer reader, and so on and so on, until there is only one person or a few standing. These students win and win extra points on their quiz. Furthermore, you can be asked the definition of your word at any time and should be prepared to give that when asked. If your definition does not contain the definition word(s) then you must sit down.
